Shaping Lives One Teammate at a Time

For nearly 85 years, Cornell University has fielded a lightweight football team. While the team’s name has evolved from 150s to Sprint, and the weight allowance generously increased, the program offers veteran players and novices the best of two worlds:

Fast, fun and lean Division I Football paired with the rigors and prestige of an Ivy League education

The program’s impact can’t be measured by championship trophies (6), or the fact Cornell was the first non-service team to beat Army or Navy. Win-loss records do not tell the stories of our student athletes who have achieved unprecedented academic and career success, or the meaningful, life-long bonds shared between alumni and coaches.

Regardless of offense or defense, special teams, or team manager, we all came of age as members of the Cornell Big Red and have personally benefited from the discipline, grit, and heart of the lightweight program — the Cullen brand.

Tackling the Future!

Under the leadership of Bob and Terry Cullen since 1958, Cornell Sprint Football has overcome numerous campus and league challenges that have threatened the vitality and continued viability of the program. Issues and opportunities are on the horizon, however, that demand the whole team — undergraduates and alumni — to take notice and act.
